Basic First Aid and CPR
This one day course will instruct students on various methods of Resuscitation on both adults and children. Students will also be instructed on the role of the first aider to:
- Prioritise treatment
- Recognise and treat shock and bleeding
- Manage the incident at hand appropriately
- Assess the situation
Students will also be taught
- Awareness of airway obstruction
- Symptoms of a Heart Attack
- Basic Epileptic awareness
- Basic Diabetes awareness
Course Aims:
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work
- Administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) promptly and effectively
- Administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to an unconscious casualty
- Administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
- Administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who has been burned or scalded, suffering from an injury to bones, muscles or joints, suffering from shock, has an eye injury, may be poisoned or uffering from gas or smoke inhalation.
All students will be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of first aid at work including:
- The importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures
- The use of first aid equipment in the workplace
- The role of the first aider in an emergency procedure
- CPR techniques
