Epilepsy

This half day course will give students a factual understanding of Epilepsy and the difficulties faced by people suffering from the condition.  Students will be taught about the social and psychological aspects of epilepsy, action to be taken in the event that a patient suffers an epileptic fit and current available medication and therapies for the condition.

This course will enhance students' ability to interact with health and social care providers or assist people who have epilepsy themselves. It also enables students to help others improve their knowledge of epilepsy.

Course Aims:

By the end of the course students will be able to: 

  • Differentiate different seizure types and patterns
  • Understand known side-effects of drug therapy
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the practical and psychological implications of epilepsy on the sufferer
