During this half day course, students will be instructed on:
- Uses of and Administration of medication
- Standards and Guidelines and Legal requirements
- Healthcare assistants practice role/s and functions in the context of contemporary health care
- Reporting systems in place to monitor practice
- Routes of administration
- Self-administration of medication
- Use of Controlled drugs
- Disposal of medicines
- Common side-effects of medicines
- Common Medication errors
- The importance and necessity of Service user confidentiality
Course Aims:
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Promote patient safety
- Prepare healthcare assistants with grounding in theory and practice and with the level of competence required to provide safe and effective practice.
- Facilitate the practice of administrating medicines which allows healthcare assistants to develop and expand their role in order to meet patient needs
- Enable the administration of medicines to follow evidence based practice
