Mental health Awareness
Held over 3 days, this popular course introduces students into basic nursing care and enables them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary when caring for clients with mental health difficulties.
Course Aims
By the end of the course, students will be able to: understand the role of the healthcare assistant and their incorporate duties; identify commonly used Sections of the mental health Act 1983; identify different nursing interventions; identify types of mental illness and treatments; and demonstrate developed communication skills.
Physical Intervention Programme
This intensive 3 day course instructs students on the basic working principles of English Law in relation to the controlled application of physical force as well as the technical physical skills required for the competent application of physical intervention techniques. Students practice all taught physical intervention techniques in a controlled environment with a minimum of two accredited instructors. All students are instructed on the risks associated with the use of physical restraint techniques.
Course Aims
By the end of the course, students will be able to: use competent physical intervention techniques in appropriate circumstances within their employment role; demonstrate a basic understanding of the law supporting the use of physical intervention.
This programme is assessed on a pass or fail basis and students must be able to demonstrate competent theoretical and practical skills to obtain certification.
Moving & Handling
This one day course aims to instruct students on current Health & Safety legislation for both the UK and Europe. Students will also learn the basics of body mechanics, correct methods of lifting from various heights and planning for lifting operations in a variety of given situations.
Course Aims
By the end of the course students will be able to: understand the need for correct manual handling techniques; recognise the types of injury resulting from incorrect Manual Handling; demonstrate knowledge of correct lifting techniques relating to various loads; understand and practice good team lifting techniques; evaluate the task, load environment and the individual's capacity; recognise the various types of lifting aids available.
